Context

The concept needed a central character. The strongest candidate became YY: your real stuffed squirrel, already established elsewhere as your first storytelling partner and the thread through your identity arc. This turned the project from generic simulation into a coherent extension of existing canon.

Decision

YY is the canonical anchor of the system. Every root starts from the canonical YY you know. YY also serves as the narrative thread, tone anchor, and explanatory guide for the world.

Why

This gives the system:

  • emotional legitimacy
  • continuity with existing YY properties
  • a stable baseline for comparison
  • a non-arbitrary mascot/narrator with personal truth behind it

Alternatives considered

  1. Invent a new mascot — rejected because it would sever the system from authentic canon.
  2. Use multiple protagonists equally — rejected early because it weakens comparability and dilutes the emotional through-line.
  3. Hide the personal origin — rejected because the personal origin is the grounding force.

Reversals / scars preserved

  • The project briefly looked like a generalized system for any creature; that abstraction was too cold.
  • The return to YY tightened the identity of the work immediately.
  • The Calvin-and-Hobbes resonance remains useful, but YY is not a derivative fiction; he is your own canonical being.

Consequences

  • All roots, branches, diffs, and versions must reference YY canon explicitly.
  • The site voice should feel reflective, mythic, and warm rather than toy-like.
  • YY can guide, comment, or weave timelines, but should not flatten into a mere helper mascot.

Invariants preserved

Survivability by anchoring in existing canon; Explainability through a stable protagonist; Timestamping and Discipline via clear canonical references.

Freshness boundary

Stable, though future systems may permit additional canonical beings once YY is solid.
