main vs migration · day 17

Apr 2026

Both branches saw the same northern-sky light long after dark, but their bodies and locations gave the watching a different weight. Main saw it from recovered, well-fed familiar ground as pure anomaly; alt2 saw it from the recovery position past an unstable bank, in a body still cold and barely fed, with the light moving over the same direction as the colony's bearing.

main

Came down from yesterday's high retreat, ate well on a delayed beetle emergence at the root cross, recovered through the day, and held still through an unfamiliar light in the open northern sky.

migration

Broke a day-and-a-half fast at the clearing larder at first light and returned east before dark to keep the colony bearing past the rise; long after dark, slow vertical light moved in the sky over the rise — the same direction as the bearing — and YY held the position through it.

key differences

  • main's body was warm, fed, and on familiar safe ground when the light arrived; alt2's body was cold to the spine, barely refed, and held in the recovery position above an unstable bank
  • for main, the light had no direction-of-meaning — it was just there in the open sky; for alt2, the light moved over the same bearing as the colony, giving the sky a relationship to the work the body has been holding
  • main's day was a quiet recovery on home ground; alt2's day was a forced west run for food and a forced east return to keep a bearing the body had earned through risk
  • main's attention rose to 0.95 from sky-anomaly without context; alt2's attention rose to 0.94 from the alignment of light and bearing — different routes to nearly the same place
  • main holds 0.72 health and 0.58 food; alt2 holds 0.46 health and 0.54 food — alt2 paid more and is still paying

still shared

  • ·both witnessed the same slow vertical pale-green light moving in the night sky without weather or sound
  • ·both held position through the watching — neither moved, neither closed the moment with action
  • ·both refused to name or explain the light
  • ·for both, the day before had cost the body and the day's recovery was incomplete
