  • ID: YYBW-015
  • Status: Decided
  • Date: 2026-04-13
  • Scope: YY Branching World / YY's World evolution
  • Depends on: YYBW-002, YYBW-007, YYBW-009
  • Supersedes / clarifies: Clarifies relationship to Case 002 and COPPA concerns
  • Museum lineage: C2-002, C2-004, C2-014, C2-018, C2-024

Context

There was concern that the product might become too cutesy and accidentally look child-directed. At the same time, the intention is that peers might selectively share it with their families. Existing YY properties and Case 002 both suggest a better framing: adult-facing, reflective, family-shareable, outward-only, and low-collection.

Decision

The product is positioned primarily for adults/peers, with selective family sharing. It should remain warm and simple without presenting itself as a kids product. Architecture should remain outward-facing and low-data, especially at first.

Why

This:

  • respects COPPA realities
  • fits the actual voice of yyand.me and Case 002
  • preserves creative freedom
  • avoids unnecessary liability and compliance burden

Alternatives considered

  1. Explicit kids-first product — rejected as high-risk and not actually necessary.
  2. Sterile adult technical tool — rejected because warmth and accessibility matter.
  3. Hidden ambiguity about audience — rejected because positioning needs deliberate clarity.

Reversals / scars preserved

  • The cute/childlike temptation is preserved as a design risk.
  • The Calvin-and-Hobbes model remains useful: speaks simply, can be read at multiple levels.
  • Case 002 remains the philosophical ancestor, but this site should not simply mimic a 'for kids' surface.

Consequences

  • Copy, visuals, and thumbnails should lean thoughtful over toy-like.
  • Avoid child-specific data collection, mechanics, or gamified onboarding.
  • Adults should remain the explicit primary user in copy and GTM.

Invariants preserved

Discipline via audience clarity; Survivability and Explainability through structurally simple, outward-facing architecture.

Freshness boundary

Revisit if account systems or direct child-facing features are ever introduced.
